Paines Plough: This Other England

28 Jan 2005 - 22 May 2005

This Other England was a groundbreaking body of work that marked the 30th anniversary of new writing powerhouse Paines Plough. These four plays were presented at the Menier Chocolate Factory between January – May 2005.

Taking its cue from Melvyn Bragg’s radio 4 series The Routes of English, Paines Plough commissioned eight outstanding voices of theatre to think about English as a language and how it shapes our identity. This season was the premiere of the first four of these commissions which offered a theatrical cross-section. It marked the start of an extraordinary series.
