The long awaited revival of Sondheim’s most personal and heartfelt masterpiece Sunday In The Park With George opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory on November 18th.
A sensational ensemble cast is led by Olivier award winner Daniel Evans and Anna Jane Casey in this visually stunning production of Sondheim’s most heartfelt masterpiece.
The Georges Seurat painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, is the inspiration for this compelling musical fantasy which celebrates the art of creation and the creation of art. The first half, set in 1884 sees the painting and its rich comic tapestry come to life, in a world where for artist Georges, art comes before love, before everything. In the second half, set in eighties New York, we see the great grandson of Georges and his search for inspiration amongst the unforgiving world of contemporary art.
Daniel Evans has played the title roles in Candide and Peter Pan (National Theatre) and appeared in Grand Hotel and Merrily We Roll Along – Olivier Award, Best Actor in a Musical (Donmar Warehouse). Anna Jane Casey has played Velma in Chicago (Adelphi Theatre) and Anita in West Side Story (Prince Edward Theatre).
