Love In Idleness

Terence Rattigan's brilliant comedy, Love In Idleness, is directed by Trevor Nunn.

This brand new production marks Trevor Nunn 's exciting return to Rattigan's work, following the huge success of Flare Path.

We are thrilled to welcome Trevor Nunn back to the Chocolate Factory, where his previous shows include A Little Night Music (also West End and Broadway) and Aspects of Love.

Returning from Canada after a four-year absence during the war, eighteen-year-old Michael is full of youthful ideology and leftist leanings. But he is shocked to find his widowed mother Olivia is now the mistress of cabinet minister Sir John Fletcher, enjoying a comfortable society life. When Michael and John clash, sparks fly and relationships are tested as everyone learns some difficult lessons in love.

Our outstanding cast includes:

Eve Best 's theatre credits include A Moon for the Misbegotten (Old Vic / Broadway), Hedda Gabler (Almeida / Duke of York’s - Olivier Award and Evening Standard Award for Best Actress) and on television, Nurse Jackie. Anthony Head 's extensive theatre credits include Six Degrees of Separation (Old Vic), and on television Merlin and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Helen George 's credits include After Miss Julie (Theatre Royal Bath & UK Tour) and on television, Call The Midwife. Edward Bluemel is currently in ITV’s The Halcyon.

Terence Rattigan ’s (1911 – 1977) plays include The Deep Blue Sea, The Browning Version, Separate Tables, French Without Tears and The Winslow Boy.
